Born on September 9, 1966, to Edward Ephram O’ Brien and Estela Lucrecia, in St. James situated in New York, the United States of America, her birth name is Maria de la Soledad Teresa O’ Brien. She belongs to mixed ethnicity as her father was of Scottish as well as Irish descent and her mother was an Afro-Cuban. She spent most of her early childhood days growing up with her family consisting of five siblings in the United States.


At the time of their marriage, her parents were forced to shift to Washington D.C. as it was a criminal offense to marry a person of another race in Maryland. She did her initial schooling from the Smithtown High School East and graduated in the year 984 from there. She then went on to study in Harvard- Radcliffe College in the year 1984 and graduated with a degree in the year 1988 from there.

She started her professional career with the WBZ-TV where she worked as an associate producer. She also served the purpose of a news essayist during her tenure there. After quitting her job there, she decided to work for the NBC News and became a part of it in the year 1991. During her time at the NBC News, she basically worked on two shows titled Weekend today and Nightly News and was their field producer.

She then moved on to work at the KRON Network where she became a columnist for the show The Know Zone. She quit her job there as well after three years and again started working for NBC News. During her time at KRON, she also appeared in The Next Step which airs on Discovery Channel. After rejoining NBC News, she became the anchor of the show the Morning Show in the year 1996 and was also selected to anchor the show The Site. In the year 1999, she also started anchoring the show Weekend Today.

After working for NBC News for a long time, Brien went on to work with CNN and was selected to anchor the show American Morning in the year 2003. During her time at CNN, she was awarded the Peabody Award for her report on the aftermath caused by the hurricane Katrina. She also started working on documentaries and her first documentary Latino in America was released in the year 2009. In the year 2007, she was also seen as the anchor of the popular segment Black in America.

In the year 2012, she was selected for being the anchor of the show Starting Point after the show American Morning was discontinued. After one year of working on Starting Point, she decided to establish her own production company named the Starfish Media Group and quitted working for CNN in the year 2013. In the same year, she started working for HBO and was part of the show Real Sports.

She is married to Bradley Raymond and the couple got married in the year 1995. Brien and her husband are proud parents of four kids. Her biography is available on several sites and her salary is expected to be very high with her net worth being $5 Million.
